There are only a handful of players that are truly untouchable in terms of trade for many different factors. Star franchise players (most of the time) typically stick with one team for atleast their prime if not their entire career.
However, even some of the great players in the NFL that among the best get traded all the time. There are also players who have been solid throughout their career that have been on multiple teams, like D.J. Moore who will now be a member of the Bills.
When you look at what the Bills’ current roster is, there are a handful of solid players on both sides of the ball. Some are veterans and some are starting to enter that phase of their career. One player specifically that has been solid when he’s on the field is tight end Dalton Kincaid.
In three seasons for the Bills, Kincaid has 1,692 yards and 9 touchdowns which included him coming off his best season in Buffalo this past season. However, the biggest knock on Kincaid who has missed 11 regular season games the last two seasons mainly to a knee injury. At the same time, the Bills offense operates better when he is on the field.
The Bills will have to decide on whether or not to pick up his fifth year option of his rookie deal and Brandon Beane has already said that the plan is to pick up the option. While that is the plan, anything can change for better or worse.
Dalton Kincaid being listed as Bills' top trade asset is far from the truth
Bills fans expect to see Kincaid in Buffalo blue for the foreseeable future but Kincaid was recently listed as the Bills' most valuable trade asset as the NFL Draft approaches by John Kosko of Pro Football Focus (subscription may be required).
"Kincaid is a polished route runner with reliable hands, and he has consistently earned strong receiving grades. However, with holes across the roster on both sides of the ball, Buffalo could benefit from turning one premium asset into multiple contributors. Trading Kincaid would allow the Bills to recoup significant draft capital to address those needs. His youth and production would make him one of the most attractive options on a relatively thin tight end market." said Kosko.
Again, anyone can be traded at any moment but with Brandon Beane saying that the plan is to pick up Kincaid’s fifth year option, I find it extremely hard to see the Bills making a move that would send Kincaid out of Buffalo.Â
Not to mention, the Bills traded up for Kincaid in the 2023 draft and Dawson Knox essentially took a pay cut with his new extension that he got from Buffalo a few weeks ago.
Kosko is right that the Bills have plenty of holes to fill out on the roster, but trading away a safety valve that has been consistent when on the field for Josh Allen is not the way to do it. Unless something major changes within the building that could make this option more realistic, Kincaid should very well be running out of the tunnel come September for the Bills.
