The Buffalo Bills' QB2 competition is officially over. Watchers of HBO's 'Hard Knocks' series, or particularly fanatical Bills fans, can tell you all about the battle between Mike White and Mitchell Trubisky for Buffalo's backup quarterback job.

With the top spot clearly settled by reigning MVP Josh Allen, and James Cook's contract situation quickly resolved, there was little in the way of drama this offseason.

Still, it was a tough competition, with both White and Trubisky getting the better of each other on several occasions. All training camp, comparisons were drawn between the two. Their arm, mobility, and pocket awareness were all major factors. The biggest argument seemed to be about their cost against their contacts against the salary cap, instead of their play on the field. Mike White cost $1.195m against the cap, but Trubisky cost $3.25m, per Spotrac.

As far as their play, it was a decision that seemed to come down to the wire. But, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Mike White was cut by the Bills on Monday afternoon. The backup job has been won by Mitchell Trubisky; Money wasn't the deciding factor. It will be Truibisky's third season backing up Josh Allen in the last five years.

The team will inevitably seek to retain Mike White for the practice squad. Barring a better offer from elsewhere, he'll surely be back. His familiarity with the team and playbook make him the ideal person for the role. If he does find work on another roster, Shane Buchele is the next man up for the Bills.

This move comes as part of the Buffalo Bills' process to bring their 90-man offseason roster to just 53 players. The 2025 season is right around the corner. Though the QB2 battle has been decided, fans will be glad to never see either of the players actually take the field.
