Reason No.2: His veteran presence helps the Buffalo Bills
It is very possible that Hyde never sees the field this season, as fans should not expect him to climb into a starting role and be the Micah Hyde they all love and know. He is a great emergency depth piece who can fill in if you need him. At this point, having his leadership and football smarts is even bigger. The Bills are trying to develop second-round rookie, Cole Bishop, and who better to guide him than Micah Hyde, the epitome of what it is to be a star safety for the Buffalo Bills.
Not just with Bishop, his football mental translates around the entire defense, just as it has done over the last seven years. This time, however, he’s in more of just a coaching role than playing and coaching role. Hyde and former fellow star safety Jordan Poyer helped mentor Taylor Rapp last season and he’s playing excellent for the team this year as their starting safety. Same goes for Damar Hamlin who worked his way back and is having a good season and leads all AFC safeties in Pro-Bowl votes. His influence and experience can help a lot with the defensive backs and defense as a whole.
The Bills lost a lot of veteran leadership this off-season and Hyde was one of them. Quarterback Josh Allen stepped up even more and linebacker Terrel Bernard is shouldering more as well, as they are the only two captains this year. Hyde immediately brings veteran leadership back to a locker room and coaching staff he knows, and that’s big come playoff time.
