When you look back at the draft class for the Buffalo Bills, one of the more shocking moves that they made was trading up into the back end of the second round to acquire Ohio State cornerback Davison Igbinosun. It was surprising because a lot of people thought that the Bills had other pressing needs to address, and cornerback wasn’t one of them.

The Bills already have Christian Benford and Maxwell Hairston as their penciled-in starters, plus they signed Dee Alford in free agency as the replacement for Taron Johnson. However, it was the depth that was a bit concerning so it wouldn’t have been a surprise for the Bills to eventually draft corner depth. Just not in the second round, let alone trading up for one.

Overall, the Bills drafted two corners in Igbinosun and then selected Toriano Pride Jr. in the 7th round.

Once the draft came to an end, both Brandon Beane and Joe Brady spoke with the media and Beane made an interesting remark about why he thought that cornerback was "the Bills most pressing need" per Matthew Bove. Bove also mentioned that for any fans that are "looking for clues about Dorian Strong's outlook, this may be pretty telling."

Dorian Strong's future with Bills may not be looking so great

Cornerback Dorian Strong was drafted by the Bills in last year’s draft, but he only played in four games before suffering a season-ending neck injury that has become a potentially career-ending injury. With Buffalo dealing with injuries early on at corner last season, Strong had the opportunity to show what he could do and he was pretty solid.

Then unfortunately, he got hit with an injury that could very be a career-ending one with a neck injury. He did have surgery this offseason, but only time will tell if he will be able to suit up again.

Now that Beane made this comment about cornerback being the biggest need from his perspective, Bills fans should now have a better understanding as to why the Bills drafted two cornerbacks, including one in the second round.

While Buffalo should be looking to add more help to that room, getting the two rookies gives the Bills options for now and later. However, they may end up losing Strong if his recovery doesn’t go as hopefully planned.
