The Buffalo Bills are going to be a team that fans will watch closely. They made the big decision to move on from Sean McDermott and eventually promote offensive coordinator Joe Brady as the team’s next head coach. Obviously, Brady faces great pressure as he will look to continue what McDermott created when he arrived in 2017.

However, Beane has faced a ton of criticism since the firing of McDermott, as people were wondering why he not only got retained but was also promoted to President of Football Operations.

Beane didn't hire McDermott, so he got to hire his first head coach of his career. Now only time will tell if it was the right decision. Until then, Beane will now have to get to work to prove to fans that he can build this team for Brady to have success.

Beane, just like any other GM in the league, has missed on draft picks and free agent signings. However, this offseason is now set up to be a big one for him because of what the roster has looked like the last two seasons, and with McDermott being fired while he was kept.

It’s time for Beane to do a lot of work prior to kickoff of the 2026 season.

Brandon Beane has big task to deliver huge offseason for Bills

Xavier Aguiar from NFL Spin Zone listed the Bills as one of the three teams heading into this offseason with “extra urgency” and Aguiar is absolutely right. Specifically, Aguiar mentioned how Beane has to create “some flexibility and bring in fresh faces to Orchard Park.

"Buffalo’s book is currently in the negative, but there needs to be urgency from GM Brandon Beane to create some flexibility and bring in fresh faces to Orchard Park. Just giving Josh Allen some better weapons on the outside and getting a serviceable pass rusher could be the difference between another year of disappointment and finally shattering this self-imposed glass ceiling."

Beane has the opportunity to prove any doubters that he has wrong about what he can do with this roster. The thing is, the roster was never a huge issue until the 2024 season. There hasn’t been a true No. 1 receiver since Stefon Diggs and the wide receiver problem was massive without question.

On the defensive side, Beane has to find themselves a true pass rusher because Greg Rousseau is more of a run-stopper. He’s not going to be the one that disrupts a game late in the 4th quarter. That’s another big task for Beane.

While eyes are on Brady right now, Beane and his staff must prepare to hit a home run in the offseason because if they don’t, fans are going to be very angry (and rightfully so).
