Not only does training camp in the NFL provide the teams and fans an idea of where a team is currently heading into the regular season, it also gives them a chance to see who and who will not be part of the team going into Week 1. Whether it’s because they are cut candidates or possible trade candidates.

Well, the Buffalo Bills who have two days of training camp under their belt have themselves a possible trade candidate per Bradley Locker from Pro Football Focus (PFF). Locker recently listed 15 potential training camp candidates ahead of the 2025 season with the biggest name on the list being wide receiver Terry McLaurin.

However, Locker listed Bills’ veteran defensive tackle DaQuan Jones as a training camp trade candidate and it makes tons of sense. Here’s what Locker said about Jones:

"Buffalo went to the interior trench well again and again this offseason, signing free agents Michael Hoecht and Larry Ogunjobi while also drafting T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker in the first four rounds. With Jones having only one year left on his contract, the Bills may infuse youthful energy right away along a position group that needs it."

Trading DaQuan Jones makes perfect sense for Bills ahead of 2025 season

Just like Locker said, the Bills went heavy with adding young defensive talent with T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker in the draft while also signing Larry Ogunjobi in free agency. Not to mention, the Bills also have Ed Oliver and DeWayne Carter. Jones is on an expiring contract and the Bills can save $7.75 million if they trade Jones, per overthecap.com

Unless the Bills feel that both Sanders and Walker need time to develop, why wouldn’t they consider moving on from Jones? They would be saving some money and that gives the rookies some confidence for both short-term and for the long-term.

While I believe that Jones will be on the final roster, it logistically makes sense to move on from him prior to Week 1.
