All eyes will be on the Buffalo Bills and their search to fix their huge problem that they have at wide receiver. For the last two seasons, they have not had a true No. 1 receiver for Josh Allen and it has haunted them in many games. You could make the argument that if they had one, they would be the ones playing in the Super Bowl rather than sitting at home.

Since last season, the Bills have had wide receivers like Khalil Shakir, Brandin Cooks, Keon Coleman, Mack Hollins, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Elijah Moore, and Joshua Palmer to help this passing attack. Outside of Shakir and a couple of big plays from Cooks at the end of this past season, this wide receiver group has not been able to help the offense enough to get over the hump.

Whether they trade for a proven veteran or go heavy in the draft with receivers, the Bills don’t have a choice other than to get an immediate playmaker for this offense. Signing receivers who aren’t true No. 1’s is not going to get the job done, yet they are still suggested to take the risk of signing a wideout this offseason that isn’t a true go-to guy in an offense.

WR Alec Pierce pinned as fit for Bills' WR room (but it's risk)

Alex Kay from Bleacher Report discussed the free agency top priority for each team with a new head coach, and Kay has the Bills prioritizing getting a wide receiver (which is no surprise) but Kay then said that it should involve signing Colts’ wideout Alec Pierce who is a pending free agent.

"The 25-year-old had a career season in 2025 with the Colts, surpassing the 1,000-yard receiving mark for the first time while also tallying personal-best marks in targets (84) and receptions (47). He was on pace for a far better statistical season until injuries limited and eventually sidelined quarterback Daniel Jones." said Kay.

Pierce had a great 2025 season, even when Daniel Jones went out for the season. However, it was a contract year for him. Players tend to excel knowing that they have a big contract on the line whether it’s from their current team, or somewhere else.

Even though Pierce broke out this past season, he’s not a No. 1 wideout. The Bills already have receivers who have the same style of play like Coleman and Palmer. Buffalo has to get that true go-to guy, and Pierce is not ready for that kind of role just yet.

Rather than going for the same kind of receiver with Pierce, the Bills need to prioritize getting someone that is already proven, or has a very high ceiling in the draft to make a great impact immediately.
