When the NFL Draft rolls around every year, there are always lists being made prospects that teams should be avoiding all for various reasons. The Buffalo Bills are always being talked about as to what prospects they should be going after, and what prospects that they should be staying clear of.
Going into this week’s draft that is set to kick off on Thursday, the Bills are in a spot where they have limited resources and a ton of needs. Most of their needs are on defense, but they do have to address the wide receiver position at some point.
On defense, their biggest needs are at EDGE and linebacker, but going with a defensive tackle at some point wouldn’t hurt. However, this draft class does not have outstanding defensive tackle prospects outside of Kayden McDonald out of Ohio State. While they have some guys after that should be solid pros, none of them are phenomenal prospects.
There is one specific defensive tackle that Alex Ballentine from Blecher Report is suggesting that the Bills should be avoiding in the draft, and that is Caleb Banks out of Florida simply because of injuries that Banks has dealt with.
"Banks has a lot of upside, but he also brings a risky profile. Banks missed nearly all of the 2025 season with a foot injury and broke his foot at the NFL Combine. Banks's size is a big part of his allure as a prospect, but a big prospect with a history of foot injuries is concerning enough for the Bills to steer clear." said Ballentine.
Bills told to avoid Caleb Banks in NFL Draft (and it's the right choice)
Banks certainly has the size to succeed in the NFL at 6-foot-6, but dealing with an injury last season and then breaking his foot at the NFL Combine should have the Bills staying clear of him. Every season, it seems like the Bills are always dealing with injuries early on in the summer and throughout the season. The last thing they need is to draft a high-ceiling prospect that already has a recent injury history.
It would be very hard to see the Bills spending their first round pick on Banks because they have many other needs to fill. The only defensive tackle that would be worth taking in the first round is Kayden McDonald.
In addition, the Bills don’t have a second round pick and it would be very shocking to see Banks being available late in the third round.
