It’s officially the month of March and the NFL combine is underway. We are quickly approaching the free agency frenzy and then before you know it, the NFL Draft will be kicking off live from Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Buffalo Bills should be somewhat active in free agency, but they still have some money issues that they need to solve.
Don’t count on the Bills being big free agent spenders, but we all know how Brandon Beane operates and how he can strike at anytime.
From now until the NFL Draft, fans will see countless mock drafts that show various directions the Bills could go in bringing in their new rookie draft class. Beane has his moments of finding diamonds in the rough in the later rounds, but his first round selections have been more concerning than exciting.
Outside of Josh Allen and Greg Rousseau, the Bills haven’t received a lot of production from their first round picks under Beane. To be fair though, it’s not fair to evaluate tight end Dalton Kincaid after just two years, so he gets one more year to prove himself.
Buffalo currently holds pick No. 30 so they will have to wait a minute for their first round selection. The last time the Bills held this pick, they drafted defensive Greg Rousseau out of the University of Miami. So far, it’s worked out for them but they know Rousseau can still grow within his game.
Bills get a major steal in latest CBS Sports NFL mock draft
Kyle Stackpole from CBS Sports created a new mock draft based on the breaking news that the Los Angeles Rams and quarterback Matthew Stafford have agreed on a new deal to keep him in LA. Stackpole’s mock draft put major focus on former Bills’ assistant general manager, Joe Schoen and the New York Giants trading up from No. 3 to the first overall pick to select University of Miami quarterback, Cam Ward.
While Stackpole has the Giants doing whatever they can to land their next hopeful franchise quarterback, the Bills find themselves getting a huge steal at No. 30. With the way that Stackpole’s mock draft played out, the Bills managed to get University of Georgia safety, Malaki Starks.
"It doesn't appear that Malaki Starks will fall this far on draft night, but that's how this mock shook out, which the Bills are thrilled about. The Georgia standout is a do-everything safety who makes the job of his teammates easier."Kyle Stackpole, CBS Sports
Starks is considered the best safety in this draft class and there is a very slim chance that he almost falls out of the first round. If this scenario were to play out like this, the Bills would have a no-brainer choice of immediately turning in the card and having Starks’ name on it. Even though the Bills have the duo of Taylor Rapp and Cole Bishop under contract for atleast the next two seasons, there’s no way you can pass up on a player like Starks.
The ball-hawing safety for the Bulldogs was beyond impressive in his career at Georgia. He had a career high 77 total tackles in 2024 and he reeled in six career interceptions. As a safety, he also managed to record 17 pass deflections in three years.
It would be an absolute shock to see Starks fall out of the top order of the draft. However, we have seen players slide down draft boards all the time. There’s a lot that can happen from now up until draft night. Getting Starks in Buffalo seems very unlikely, but never say never.
