Knock on wood, but the Bills finally have cornerback depth. Christian Benford has been the star of camp, and we know what Taron Johnson can do in the slot. Tre’Davious White appears to be in consideration for a starting job, and Maxwell Hairston is a first-round pick who will be eased into the starting lineup, especially after suffering a knee injury early in camp.

But there is another cornerback who is worth watching throughout the rest of camp, and that is Ja’Marcus Ingram.

Ingram has been on and off Buffalo’s roster several times since joining the team in 2022, but he is worth monitoring after a strong performance in training camp. According to Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic, he was the MVP of the fourth practice, recording an interception and multiple pass breakups during the team drills. Here is a snippet of what he had to say about Ingram and his performance on Sunday:

"Ingram made the play of the day by perfectly high-pointing White’s pass intended for tight end Zach Davidson and completed the catch for an interception. Later in the session, working against Allen and first-team receiver Keon Coleman near the goal line, Coleman got the better of a contested catch opportunity near the sideline — but it was a highly competitive rep and the team had them go at it again on the very next play. Ingram dominated that contested rep and broke up the pass, splitting the results in half with Coleman."

Ingram has primarily been a special teams player for the Bills over the last three seasons, playing just 263 total snaps on defense, according to Pro Football Reference. But he does have experience in this scheme, and his strong training camp performances could slide him up the depth chart.

We saw him get onto the field late last year, and when he played, he did an admirable job as a backup. But is there another level he can get to in 2025?

There are a lot of veterans ahead of Ingram on the roster currently, but don’t be surprised if he is part of the cornerback rotation, especially if their depth is tested. He is a long, athletic cornerback who might finally be growing into his body, and it’s clear his confidence is higher than ever.

Keep an eye on Ingram throughout the preseason as he could be a sleeper candidate at the cornerback position for the Bills this season.
