The Buffalo Bills will be traveling to Soldier Field to take on the Chicago Bears Sunday night for their second preseason game.
While the teams will share a joint practice prior to the game on Sunday, players will still be looking to show off their talents to obtain open roster spots during their whole stay in Chicago.
While there have been many wide receivers limited in training camp, due to injuries, some sleeper candidates have stepped up and caught the attention of the coaching staff as well as fellow players.
Can wide receiver Stephen Gosnell bring what it takes to become an NFL wide receiver?
Gosnell has quietly gone from a training camp sleeper to an overnight fan favorite. The undrafted wide receiver has stepped in due to some key injuries at the position, making catch after catch while wowing the spectators.
While at camp, Gosnell's highlight play came as quarterback Josh Allen threw a 50-yard laser for a touchdown, in which the overlooked receiver hauled it in.
The speedy receiver entered the endzone and finished his goal with a backward somersault. As expected, the crowd in the stands went wild and showed their appreciation. Gosnell topped it off with a special spike of the ball.
Gosnell's thoughts about his big play
Gosnell believed that play was awesome, but all he did was simply run the route the coach wanted him to run, and he caught it. He also didn't shy away from the fact that Allen will always be the quarterback who threw him his first touchdown pass in an NFL training camp.
Additionally, he will never forget that when offensive coordinator Joe Brady told him to spike the ball in the end zone, that is probably what he should do.
Gosnell Experience
Gosnell enjoyed two seasons in college for the North Carolina Tar Heels before transferring and playing three years for the Virginia Tech Hokies. While there, he tore his ACL in the Hokies' victory in the 2023 Military Bowl.
After an intense rehab, Gosnell returned to the Hokies' home opener eight months later. He led Virginia Tech with 506 receiving yards last season.
With his speed and blocking abilities at the receiver position, if he continues to persevere and show his talents in the upcoming preseason games, the "camp darling" may be too beneficial to let go.
