Little did fans know that entering the 2025 season would be Sean McDermott’s final one as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills. While McDermott definitely did face a great amount of pressure considering the playoff exits that the Bills experienced underneath him, to say that he was on the hot seat…not a ton of people were saying that.

Two days after the Bills once again lost in the playoffs in a heartbreaking fashion, the Bills showed McDermott the door and were ready to move on. They will now enter the 2026 season having promoted Joe Brady to head coach and he brought in a new coaching staff.

Even though we have seen first-year/first-time head coaches get fired after one year (or even before the end of the season), it’s hard to see the Bills move on from Brady after one season unless there is an ultimate collapse.

While the Bills have some growing pains for sure, they are all set for the future on their coaching staff. That can’t be said for the same about other teams across the league.

Bills set to face off against two head coaches who could be on hot seat in 2026

Bradley Locker from Pro Football Focus (PFF) listed six head coaches who are on the hot seat entering the 2026 season. Two of them are on the Bills’ schedule, with one of them being in the AFC East, and the other being out of the conference. Those two head coaches are Aaron Glenn from the New York Jets, and Matt LaFleur from the Green Bay Packers.

A lot of people were surprised that the Jets kept Glenn after a disastrous first season in New York. The team got worse than how it was when he arrived (even before the trades involving Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams), the defense (which is Glenn’s specialty) was worse and didn’t record an interception, and the offense couldn’t find any rhythm at all no matter who was at quarterback.

Glenn gets a second chance to turn things around with the Jets, and he will be facing the Bills in Weeks 10 and 18. Buffalo beatdown the Jets in last year's season series, winning by a combined score of 65-18.

When it comes to LaFleur, Locker placed him in the "Worth Monitoring in January" section, which is a fair assessment. Much like McDermott, LaFleur has had issues getting further in the playoffs with the Packers. It makes you wonder how much longer the Packers will let LaFleur run the show despite his playoff failures.
