With the NFL Draft being completed yesterday, the Buffalo Bills have been filling out their roster even more with signing undrafted free agents to bring into the building for competition. While they will be bringing in guys who have officially signed as an undrafted free agent, and also sending out invites for rookie minicamp, the Bills are reportedly bringing in a recent former third-round pick for rookie minicamp.Â
According to Jordan Schultz, the Bills will have wide receiver Jermaine Burton part of their rookie minicamp as he will look to get back into the NFL after having not played since 2024 with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Burton is just 24 years old and has a ton of talent, but there are some risks. The Bengals drafted Burton in the third round back in 2024 where he came out of Alabama. Burton had a ton of potential coming out of college, where he played with Georgia and Alabama. In college, Burton recorded 2,376 yards and 22 touchdowns while winning a national championship with the Bulldogs in 2021.
Burton hasn’t played an NFL game since 2024 and he has a total of 4 catches for 107 yards in just 14 games. Yes, you read that right.
Bills bringing in WR Jermaine Burton for rookie minicamp is risky
There have been some major character concerns with Burton since his days back at college, and they have traveled into the NFL to where he and the Bengals just simply could not make anything work. It got to the point where Burton was being listed as a consistent healthy scratch and had even faced a team-issued suspension by the Bengals last season.
Eventually, the Bengals waived Burton and he is now looking to make a comeback with the Bills through their rookie minicamp. For many years now, the Bills have always emphasized character as a major factor into building up their team. Now with Sean McDermott not there anymore, the Bills are changing things up.
First, they had signed defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson which would have almost never happened if McDermott was still in charge. Gardner-Johnson is a player who is known for having a fiery passion and is not afraid to push others to make them better. Now, the Bills are bringing in a player in Burton who has a ton of talent at a position that the Bills still need to fill out. At the same time, there are major risks with this move.
The Bills will be looking to see if Burton has learned from prior mistakes. Fans are not used to seeing this kind of news of a very talented player with character concerns coming into the building. Well, here we are. This will be an interesting storyline to follow along with.
