Bills selected as a top landing spot for intriguing WR prospect (but it's a bad fit)

All of the focus is on the Buffalo Bills’ next head coach, but we can’t forget about the other potential moves that the Bills may or may not make with the roster. Whether it’s through free agency or the draft, Buffalo still has a job to do when it comes to building up the roster, no matter who the next head coach is.

The Bills need to fix the defense this offseason. They couldn’t stop the run, they gave up yards in crucial third-down situations, and they have a good amount of pending free agents on all of that side of the ball. On the other hand, they basically have no choice but to bring in a proven No. 1 wide receiver for Josh Allen.

They have traded for receivers and signed them as well to fix the passing game. Nothing has worked to the level that it did when Stefon Diggs was with the team. In 2024, they drafted Keon Coleman in hopes that he could be the difference maker. Clearly, he hasn’t.

It makes you wonder what direction the Bills will take to fix that issue on offense. Should they go and trade for someone? Or, should they go and draft a Round 1 WR to help bring in immediate contribution? That’s going to be the thing that fans will pay attention to.

Buffalo is better off going the route of getting a proven veteran who can be an immediate contributor to the offense, but there is a chance that Buffalo could go back and draft someone as well.

Bills listed as ideal landing spot for WR prospect (but it's not a great idea)

Tarringo Basile-Vaughan from NFL Mocks recently listed the Bills as an ideal landing spot for Washington wide receiver Denzel Boston, who has a great chance at being a first-round pick in April.

"A big, physical receiver like Boston fits the mold. A reason [John] Blair likes Boston for the Bills is that he would complement Khalil Shakir and he’s a receiver who “thrives in traffic, catching 10 of 13 targets in tight coverage” in the 2025 college football season. With Allen’s ability to extend plays, a receiver like Boston could strive along the boundaries and as a red zone target."

Being able to catch contested catches is one of the main reasons why the Bills brought in Coleman. Even when he is on the field, Coleman has not been able to put on any big-time plays that made fans excited. Sure, he’s had some great plays here and there, but there are too many inconsistencies with his game.

I’m not saying that Boston won’t be better than Coleman, but I’m saying that the Bills have already tried this path and it hasn’t worked out. Buffalo would be better off going with a different type of receiver that could add a new dynamic to the offense. Whether it’s through the draft or trading for a proven veteran that could help keep the Bills’ Super Bowl window open.
