This past NFL Draft class was not strong on paper at all, but the greatest part is that we won’t truly know how this draft class will pan out until they hit the field and show what they can do in a meaningful game. The Buffalo Bills chose to trade out of the first round despite having three different opportunities to draft a first round prospect.
They landed at the 35th overall pick and then made the selection of edge rusher T.J. Parker who will come in and become an immediate contributor for Jim Leonhard’s defense. While Buffalo's overall draft class had mixed reviews, they certainly addressed major needs which should have fans feeling great.
Sometimes, one of the best things to see when it comes to the NFL Draft is not just seeing your favorite team bring in great talent, but also see rivals make bad selections.
Bills see Dolphins and Patriots make exclusive NFL Draft list that has fans laughing out loud
Brent Sobleski from Bleacher Report listed two draft picks who were selected by the Dolphins and Patriots as some of the worst picks in the 2026 NFL Draft.
For the Dolphins, their first round selection Kadyn Proctor was listed by Sobleski but a big reason why he is listed is because the Dolphins ultimately drafted Proctor after trading down with the Dallas Cowboys who managed to land Ohio State safety Caleb Downs.
"The Issue: Situationally, the Miami Dolphins failed to provide their roster with the best possible outcome by trading down and handing the Dallas Cowboys this year's No. 1 overall prospect, Caleb Downs, instead of taking the defensive back for themselves." said Sobleski.
Even though going with an offensive lineman is never a bad idea, Miami’s head coach Jeff Hafley is a defensive-minded coach and Downs would have been an immediate upgrade to their secondary. Instead, they let him go to Dallas and while Proctor could be a solid offensive lineman, his game is very inconsistent.
Later on in Sobleski’s list, Patriots’ 7th round draft pick in QB Behren Morton out of Texas was listed. This pick isn’t necessarily a bad one, but the Patriots could have added more depth somewhere else rather than hoping to give Drake Maye a viable backup for the future.
"The Issue: The New England Patriots spent a seventh-round pick on a backup quarterback option with little physical upside when other, better possibilities remained on the board." said Sobleski.
Going into the draft, I had written about how Buffalo should have brought in a rookie quarterback who can develop behind Josh Allen. While Allen is still well in his prime, having options for the future is never a bad idea to consider. However, bringing in talent for the rest of the roster was a good idea.
Fans shouldn’t look too much into the Patriots bringing in Morton because Maye is there to stay in New England. At the same time, it makes you think about other potential players the Patriots passed up on, hoping that they can get a long-term backup for Maye.
