This past offseason, fans of the Buffalo Bills saw new additions to the secondary that included C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Geno Stone, Dee Alford, Davison Igbinosun, Toriano Pride Jr., and Jalon Kilgore. They also brought back Damar Hamlin on a one-year deal.
While they added new pieces, they still have Christian Benford and Maxwell Hairston who should be the penciled in starters at corner. However, Igbinosun could give Hairston some problems in training camp.
This unit has a great advantage with a new defensive coordinator in Jim Leonhard, who not only worked with the Denver Broncos’ defense the last two seasons, but was also a safety himself during his playing career. Leonhard was a rising coach who was going to become a coordinator sooner than later, and the Bills were very smart to acquire him as part of this new coaching regime.
With that being said, the NFL did Leonhard and the Bills no favors when it came to their schedule as they will be set to take on some of the league’s best receivers.Â
Bills face extremely tough WR matchups in 2026
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN put together a list that were voted by executives, coaches, and scouts across the league and there are a great amount of them in the Top 10 that the Bills wil face. Below are the receivers that made the Top 10:
Justin Jefferson - Minnesota Vikings (Week 9 - Monday Night Football)
Puka Nacua - Los Angeles Rams (Week 5 - Monday Night Football)
Amon-Ra St. Brown - Detroit Lions (Week 2 - Thursday Night Football)
Nico Collins - Houston Texans (Week 1)
A.J. Brown - New England Patriots (Weeks 4 & 13)
Davante Adams - Los Angeles Rams (Week 5 - Monday Night Football)
In addition to these six receivers, Zay Flowers of the Ravens and Jameson Williams of the Lions earned an honorable mention. Along with these two, Garrett Wilson (Jets), Ladd McConkey (Chargers), and Jaylen Waddle (Broncos) also received votes.
You could write so much about each receiver on this list, each of them have made an impact where it doesn’t need explaining. They just show up and perform well.
Buffalo’s pass-defense has always been solid under Sean McDermott, but now with the move to Leonhard on defense, everything is up in the air. While there is a ton of promise to what Leonhard could bring to the defense, fans will have to wait and see how this unit performs under a new scheme against the best receivers in the league.
