One of the biggest headlines that the NFL world was made aware of was a new proposal to have the infamous “tush push” play that is heavily ran by the Philadephia Eagles. Later on in the early evening of Monday, it was reported via Dianna Russini that the Green Bay Packers was the team that proposed the ban.

There have been numerous amount of reactions about this news involving the Packers issuing this proposal, including from Eagles’ offensive tackle, Lane Johnson, who simply put a laughing emoji to Russini’ tweet.

Aside form the Eagles, the only other team in the NFL that is known to run their own version of the tush push is the Buffalo Bills. When you have a quarterback like Josh Allen who has a big frame and can pick up 2-3 extra yards off of a quarterback sneak, you would think that Buffalo would do it as often as Philadlephia does.

With the NFL combine starting this week, Sean McDermott kicked off the week by speaking to the media and the tush push conversation was brought up. McDermott provided his perspective and what he truly thinks about the play. According to Alex Brasky, McDermott talked about how “there is always an injury risk with that play” and there should be a main focus on making sure that the health and safety of players are a top priority.

Sean McDermott makes a valuable point about the tush push play

This is play that has started a huge conversation on whether or not it should be allowed. When you have a majority of the eleven players on both sides of the ball colliding at once where multiple injuries could happen on the same play, it does raise concern. Especially when it involves your star quarterback who could easily get injured.

The Bills have been successful at running their version of the tush push, but they failed to make it effective in the AFC championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s only a matter of time before we see an injury that could very well affect a team moving forward. Whether it’s on the offensive or defensive line, or at quarterback.

It may not be talked about a lot right now, but the Packers have started the conversation back up about a potential ban of the tush push. However, until we start to see a trend with it, we can expect that it won’t go away.
