Bills fans are still celebrating a huge 27-24 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, and it was a hard fought win. There were so many doubters who were saying that the Bills had no chance and that the Jaguars are going to continue their hot season. Well, I don’t hear them anymore…
This game was close from start to finish, with the biggest lead being just six points (Buffalo led 13-7 at one point). Josh Allen was getting hit a lot and he even went into the tent to get evaluated for a concussion, but was cleared to return. He is the main reason why Buffalo is advancing in the playoffs, but no one should be surprised.
However, one thing that was very surprising was how Buffalo couldn’t get the rushing attack going at all. I know that Jacksonville came into this game as the No. 1 run-defense, but Buffalo had the best rushing attack in all of football with James Cook, who won the rushing title in the regular season.
Jacksonville limited Buffalo to just 79 total rushing yards, and Cook had just 46 yards off of 15 carries.
Bills' rushing attack was exposed vs. Jaguars (and that should concern fans)
As the Bills continue in the playoffs, no matter who Buffalo runs into, opposing teams may have a huge advantage now that they saw what Jacksonville did against Buffalo. Now granted, other teams don’t have the players that Jacksonville has, but they could easily adjust to keep Cook out of the game.
With Buffalo’s offense, they become one dimensional if the rushing attack doesn’t get going. For one of the few teams this season, the Bills had to rely on the pass to win and while it did work, it hasn’t been sustainable.
Joe Brady will need to figure out a way to get Cook involved and figure out the best blocking scheme moving forward for as long as Buffalo is in the postseason.
