Bills fans are getting sick and tired of the same result from the defense week-in and week-out. Now don’t get me wrong, the Bills’ offense deserves a big reason as to why the Bills lost on Thursday night against the Houston Texans. Josh Allen got sacked 8 times, the receivers couldn’t create consistent separation, and the offensive line was completely destroyed by this Houston defense.
At the same time, the defense wasn’t much help either in crucial moments. Maybe they didn’t get as crushed like they have throughout the season, but they were no help either.
First, they didn’t bring Davis Mills down once or create any takeaways. Houston protected the ball and Buffalo couldn’t get the ball back into Allen’s hands off of a turnover. That does matter, especially with Houston pinning the Bills deep into their own territory.
However, just like this entire season, the run-defense played the biggest role in letting Hoston build momentum on offense.
Bills' run-defense once again failed in Week 12 loss
According to Carl Jones, Texans’ rookie running back Woody Marks rushed for 74 yards against Buffalo. Not too bad, right? Well, Jones also mentioned that Marks also forced 5 missed tackles and got 84 yards after contact, all of which were career highs for the rookie.

ALL OF THOSE ARE CAREER HIGHS...@NextGenStats
This is just another example of how Buffalo’s defense against the run is atrocious. They had a lot of missed tackles, couldn’t bring down Marks in key moments, and it kept Allen and the offense off the field which allowed Houston’s defense to rest and get after Allen as much as they did.
This game proves just one thing about the Bills…if they make it into the playoffs, they aren’t going far. For as great as Josh Allen is, he does not get the support that he needs from the defense. Teams have taken advantage of Buffalo’s weak run-defense which keeps the ball out of Allen’s hands and it may force the Bills to have a different gameplan.
