Training camp for the Buffalo Bills finished up at St. John Fisher University on Friday, and they had their first big practice at the new Highmark Stadium on Saturday and it was the first time that fans were able to see the team practice at their new home.
With all of the changes that the Bills went through this offseason, fans were finally able to see some of it come together with the regular season starting here in just a few weeks.
Bills made major changes that fans have been waiting to see
A massive part of the changes that the Bills went through was on defense, going from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 defense under Jim Leonhard, and the team needed to bring in players that could best fit the new-look defense. Even though the Bills brought in a ton of defensive help, they didn't ignore the offense either.
Their biggest move on offense was trading for DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears, but they also added some offensive help during the draft which included Boston College offensive lineman, Jude Bowry. Buffalo drafted him early in the 4th round, so they do see him being a contributor atleast sooner than later. However, a recent development about Bowry should have Bills fans a tad bit concerned.
Jude Bowry has some improvements to make during rookie season
According to Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN, Bowry was dealing with penalty issues from officials during one of the sessions on Friday’s practice. I know it's only training camp and that Bowry is a rookie, but the Bills already have a reputation of being one of the more penalized teams in the league.
"LT Dion Dawkins had a veteran rest day. Backups Tylan Grable and then Jude Bowry spent time with the first-team offense. Bowry dealt with penalty issues from the officials present at the session." said Getzenberg.
Bowry getting the chance to compete with the first-teamgave him the opportunity to show that he can be someone that can step into a starter role at some point after 2026, but he will need to work on his game in terms of penalties.
For as great as Dion Dawkins and Spencer Brown have been throughout their careers, they unfortunately have been penalized a good amount throughout their careers. Overall, the Bills are going to have clean up that issue, whether it's pre-snap or during the play.
Luckily, training camp is the time to make mistakes so that it can be cleaned up by the time the regular season starts. However, seeing this update about Bowry is a bit concerning, but fans should give him some time to develop.
