The Buffalo Bills have been linked to many players when it comes to pre-NFL Draft visits. Whether they have already met with players, or are in the process of getting ready to meet with them, Brandon Beane and his staff are doing their due diligence with prospects with the draft less than two weeks away.
One thing that Bills fans should be keeping in mind is that as long as the Bills walk out of the first night of the draft with some defensive help, it will be a win for them. Their offense is built just fine so they can afford to wait until the second and third day to bring in depth. Beane has to do whatever it takes to snag an immediate impactful player on defense.
It’s no secret that the Bills need help on the first and third level of the defense. Now it just depends on which direction they want to go in. Sitting at No. 30, the Bills might just see who the best available player is and then make a decision on whether they make a pick or even trade back like they did last year. Or maybe, just maybe, they take a swing and move up the board…
NFL analyst Ryan Fowler reported that the Bills are getting set to host Texas A&M edge rusher Shemar Stewart on a pre-draft visit on Saturday. Stewart will then go visit the Chicago Bears early next week.
Shemar Stewart is a boom-or-bust prospect the Bills could take a chance on
In 2021, the Bills drafted edge rusher Greg Rousseau who was a boom-or-bust prospect himself coming out of the University of Miami. The potential was there but Rousseau had limited playing time with the Hurricanes. Now he is in Buffalo for the long-haul after signing a four-year, $80 million deal.
Would the Bills potentially do the same thing four years later of drafting a boom-or-bust edge rusher (ironically at No. 30) again?
Stewart is a fantastic player when he lines up against offensive linemen that aren’t quick off the ball. However, his production with the Aggies doesn’t speak high volume. He only had 1.5 sacks each season in college. Now granted, sacks aren’t the defining stat that fans should be focused on, but it does have a high influence as well.
The Bills will get the chance to meet Stewart and see if he would be a great addition for Buffalo for years to come.
