Week 2 will continue on today after the Buffalo Bills opened it up this past Thursday night with a high-scoring 41-31 win over the Detroit Lions. The Bills playing two games just four days apart is never an easy task, especially when you consider the opponents that they faced.
With that being said, their offense looks like the best in the league through two games and Josh Allen looks like the clear MVP runner as of right now.
This is the third consecutive season that the Bills started out the season on a 2-0 note, and now they will have two more home games (Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots) before they hit the road in Week 5 against the Los Angeles Rams. The beginning of Buffalo's schedule is a gauntlet, but they have managed to take down the Texans and Lions, giving them excellent confidence moving forward.
Bills have perfect momentum at the right time
Even though the Bills already have two tough wins underneath their belt, their next three games against the Chargers, Patriots, and Rams are no walk in the park matchups. All three of them were in the playoffs last season, and they each possess strengths that could make Buffalo pay the price.
Luckily, the Bills have the extra rest against the Chargers, and they will be hosting both LA and New England in Buffalo for the home field advantage. Then the Bills will be heading out west to take on the Rams, but it's on Monday night in Week 5 so it gives the Bills an extra day to prepare. After that game, the Bills will take on the Las Vegas Raiders, which is a bit of a scheduling break.
Buffalo has tough games coming up, but Jake Beckman from FanSided.com has the Bills rolling through these next four games with wins...but then losing their first game in Week 8 against the Baltimore Ravens.
First loss projection has Bills losing potential playoff seed advantage against key AFC rival
Beckman projected all the team's first loss that don't have one already, and Beckman has the Bills going undefeated through their bye week, but then dropping their first loss against the Ravens in Orchard Park in Week 8.
"The problem is that their defense looks like it still might be a hot bag of trash. If that’s the case, an ultra-dynamic team like the Ravens will control the game, hit explosives when it needs to, limit Josh Allen’s downfield throws, and hand the Bills their first loss of the season." said Beckman.
To be fair, Buffalo's defense is going through some growing pains under Jim Leonhard, and he's admitted it as well. It could very well improve by the time that the Ravens come to town, or maybe they will still be struggling.
Either way, if the Bills lose to the Ravens (whether it's their first loss or not), it could come back to haunt them as far as AFC playoff seedings because Baltimore would have the tiebreaker advantage. While Buffalo has had the Ravens' number in the playoffs in Lamar Jackson's career, both wins have come in Buffalo, none in Baltimore.
Home field advantage matters, especially in the playoffs. Losing to a team like the Ravens, who always expected to be in the playoffs, could hurt the Bills if there is ever a tiebreaker situation.
