For a little while now, the Buffalo Bills have needed adequate depth at cornerback. Whether we're talking pre-Tre'Davious White injury or after that era was officially over, the Bills have had issues at the position at times.
It's been a few years of trying to figure out the corner position, and adding depth there is still atop the priority list going into the 2025 NFL Draft.
Ole Miss cornerback Trey Amos could end up blossoming into a solid NFL starter, but he'll need a little work in some areas. He's still viewed as a top-100 prospect by many outlets, and for good reason. Let's dive in a bit further.
Ole Miss CB Trey Amos 2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Notes
- Height: 6-1
- Weight: 195
- First-team All-SEC in 2024
- Truly puts WRs on an island on deep balls; under 19 percent completion rate on throws of over 20 air yards (h/t NFL media by way of PFF)
Positives
- Tall, long frame is desirable at the NFL level
- One of those quick-twitch athletes who possesses precise footwork
- Able to stay with receivers on a variety of routes thanks to excellent body control
- Play strength is more than sufficient, allowing him to match up against bigger receivers
From a pure "judge a book by its cover" standpoint, it's hard not to like Amos. If you were to judge Amos as a strong, physical player based on his appearance and frame, you'd be right. He's a strong player who will not be out-manned by his opposition.
To go with his strength, Amos is also able to stay with most receivers because he pairs his muscle with some quick feet. He is precise with being able to follow receivers in and out of breaks.
Negatives
- Mental game needs work; too focused on aggression and not enough on the ball at times
- Not fast enough to run down top-tier speedsters
- Inconsistent tackler
Related Bills news:
This is a situation where, once Amos is able to make the jump mentally, you better watch out. He is so physically-gifted, but lacks some of the mental processing needed. He can be behind at times and also doesn't do a good job tackling with consistent form. He'll also have a hard time playing catch-up if he's caught looking and a receiver works a few yards past him.
Trey Amos NFL Player Comparison: James Bradberry
Like James Bradberry, Amos is over six feet and weighs-in around 200 pounds. The size is similar. The physical play style is also similar, especially when it comes to taking risks or being too focused on the non-mental side of things. It can get both of these guys in trouble at times, but they'll also come away with their fair share of plays.
Trey Amos 2025 NFL Draft Player Grade: Round 3
Any team needing a second starting cornerback could wind up finding one with Amos, but he's likely best-suited as the next man up. If he's counted on to start as a rookie, he'll put some mistakes on display. Now, he'll also make some big plays. They're going to come in stride, one after another, until he's developed further.
