Bills need to strongly consider signing best available cornerback for playoffs

You can never have too much depth.

Bills fans only have to watch two more games before they see the Buffalo Bills hit the field for the playoffs. No matter what they seeding they are, the Bills are going to be tasked with the challenge that they have had since 2020, and that is making the Super Bowl. Over the last four years, they have been eliminated by the Kansas City Chiefs three times and the Cincinnati Bengals once.

The Bengals may not make the playoffs and the Chiefs are already in the playoffs, in which Buffalo could see them if both teams win out. One of the reasons why the Bills haven’t been able to get over the hump is because of injuries they are handed. In last year’s AFC divisional round against the Chiefs, they were without a majority of their defensive starters.

As of right now, the Bills are currently facing injuries once again on the defense. Rasul Douglas, Damar Hamlin, and Taylor Rapp have missed the last two games. Matt Milano also missed Week 16 too. Now is the time to attack the free agency pool and see what talent is out there that could potentially help the Bills win it all.

Bills need to sign CB Patrick Peterson for playoffs

It never hurts to have depth at a position where it seems like injuries are always happening. While the Bills have talented cornerbacks, there are times when they exit a game or are ruled inactive and then guys like Kaiir Elam or Ja’Marcus Ingram step in.

Patrick Peterson has played for 13 years, mostly with the Arizona Cardinals and he was the best shutdown corner at one point. He is an 8-time Pro Bowl player (2011-2018) and also earning First-Team All-Pro honors three times (2011, 2013, 2015). Peterson left the Cardinals and played two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and then spent last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Even though Peterson is on the backend of his career, he has not showed signs of slowing down. He can still be a ballhawk and his veteran presene would heavily benefit guys like Elam and Christian Benford (who is already turning into a shutdown corner himself).

You can never have too much depth at a position, especially in the secondary. It would be foolish for Brandon Beane to not atleast have a conversation about bringing in Peterson for playoff football.
