Bills must hope Jets make foolish trade for potential top trade target

While Buffalo Bills fans are hoping that Brandon Beane will make a splash or two this offseason, they have some work to do in order to build financial room to acquire more talent. It’s not impossible, but not an easy task as well. That’s one of the prices that a team has to play when they are paying solid money to players.

However, it’s better to be in the Bills’ position that they are currently rather than what the New York Jets are in. With what seems like forever at this point, the Jets are going into an offseason where the head coach is on the hot seat and they have a ton of rebuilding to do which includes finding a quarterback.

Clearly Justin Fields isn’t the answer, and before he decided to go back to college, Oregon quarterback Dante Moore seemed like the pick for the Jets in this upcoming draft in April. However, he’s not coming out of college and now the Jets are going to have to scramble to find themselves a quarterback.

We are at the point where the Jets may have to reach badly for a quarterback in the draft, or scan the rest of the league to see who could be available either via free agency or by a trade.

Jets listed as potential suitor for current back QB (and Bills fans can only laugh about it)

Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report put together a list of players who could very well be on the trade block going into the offseason, and 49ers backup QB Mac Jones was the top player listed and the Jets were listed as a potential suitor. Knox listed the trade value for Jones as a 2026 2nd-round pick.

If the Jets were to actually trade for Jones with this kind of compensation, it would be hilarious for Bills fans.

"Given the immense value of the QB position, Jones' age, and his modest $2.8 million 2026 salary, many teams will view Jones as worth a second-round flier—which will likely be the starting point to get San Francisco's interest." said Knox.

After a horrendous tenure in New England and then being traded to the Jaguars, Jones signed with San Francisco and took the route that Sam Darnold took early on in his career; learning under Kyle Shanahan.

Jones got some a good amount of playing time due to Brock Purdy being hurt last season, and believe it or not, Jones actually played very well. He threw for 2,151 yards and 13 touchdowns to just 6 interceptions. He did exactly what a backup should do and because of this little sample, there is a chance that maybe he will become a starter again.

At the same time, if the Jets were to give up high draft compensation for Jones, who only has one year left on his deal and would not have a great set up in New York, it would be a complete disaster (which would make Bills fans laugh hysterically).

Jones struggled in the AFC East and if he were to be traded to the Jets, it would be more of a worse setup than what he was in with the Patriots. While it’s hard to imagine the 49ers moving on from Jones because of what he did last season, if the right offer comes around, you would think that John Lynch would be willing to take on a high draft pick for a backup.
