A position that doesn’t get talked about a lot until a huge injury occurs is the backup quarterback position. Luckily for the Buffalo Bills, Josh Allen doesn’t get hurt a ton to the point where he misses games. In fact, he hasn’t truly missed a game since his rookie season.

The Bills are usually locked into a playoff spot by the time the final week of the regular season comes around, and he will play one snap before heading to the bench.

Still, a team has to make sure that whoever the backup is, is someone that can keep the offense going atleast schematically and can lift the team just a little bit.

Right now, the Bills are set to lose Mitch Trubisky, who has been Josh Allen’s backup the last two seasons, and once in 2021 after being let go by the Bears. Now, the Bills could very well bring Trubisky back, or they could go in a different route that fans may not be thinking about.

Bills could solidify backup QB position by trading for Will Levis

When the Titans drafted Cam Ward in last year's draft, it pretty much summed up Levis' chances on becoming a starter in Tennessee. The Titans had drafted Levis out of Kentucky in 2023 in the second round, and showed some signs of promise in his rookie season. In nine games played, Levis threw for 1,808 yards and 8 touchdowns. It looked like the Titans had something with Levis, until the 2024 season came around.

In 2024, the Titans finished as the worst team in football and part of the reason why was because of Levis and his play. Levis would deal with injuries and eventually be benched to finish out his 2024 season, throwing for 2,091 yards and 13 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. A couple months after the Titans finished as the worst team in football, Tennessee drafted Cam Ward.

Levis didn’t play in 2025 as he had surgery on his throwing shoulder and now he enters the final year of his rookie contract. With Tennessee going with Ward after a promising rookie season, it would make sense for them to move from Levis and if the Titans are willing to deal him, the Bills should be calling.

The Bills have the best quarterback in the league with Josh Allen, but it’s important to have a solid backup just incase anything happens. Levis can play, but with going through a coaching change with Brian Callahan and not having a great support system around him in 2024, it was hard for him to be successful right away.

Maybe a change of scenery is what could benefit Levis, and the Bills would have the chance to do with Levis what they did with Mitch Trubisky; sit behind Josh Allen and let him work on his game.
