The Buffalo Bills are hoping that 2026 is the year the team finally gets over the hump and wins the franchise's first-ever Super Bowl trophy. They've been so close in recent years but just can't get that coveted AFC title victory to even make it to the Super Bowl.

The Bills made some big changes this offseason, parting ways with Sean McDermott and promoting Joe Brady to head coach. Jim Leonhard is also taking over as the defensive coordinator and that is giving fans a lot of reason for optimism as the regular season inches closer.

Buffalo is 100 percent in win-now mode so they're going to be linked to any and every player who requests a trade from their current team whether the need for that player is there or not. Vita Vea is one of those players who will continue to be linked to the Bills until either a new contract is worked out for him in Tampa or until he's traded to another team.

The star defensive tackle requested a trade in July after he and the Buccaneers couldn't come to an agreement on a new contract. Naturally, Buffalo makes sense as a landing spot. Josh Crysler of The Pewter Plank, FanSided's Buccaneers site, listed the Bills as the best possible destination for Vea if the Bucs have to trade him.

Crysler's reasonings for why the Bills would be the best trade partner is that the Bucs and Bills play in different conferences and won't meet up in the 2026 regular season. That's reasonable, at least for Tampa Bay.

Even if it is reasonable for the Buccaneers, however, that doesn't mean the Bills have to bite. Sure, Vea is a great player but what if the Bills already have a lesser-known version of Vea on their roster already?

Bills don't need Vita Vea when they already have Deone Walker

Last year, the Bills spent a fourth-round pick on Deone Walker out of Kentucky. Day 3 picks can be pretty hit-and-miss but Walker was arguably the best defensive lineman for the Bills at times and finished his rookie year by starting 16 games. Clearly, the team saw potential in him and the hope is that Walker can build on what he did as a rookie and be an even bigger contributor for the Bills in Year 2.

Walker has already received hype for a potential breakout season by The Athletic and that's exactly what Bills fans want to hear. There were certainly glimpses of it a season ago and while he isn't as proven as Vea is yet (that will obviously take some time), there's a chance that he could be the best player on the defensive side of the ball for the hungry Bills.

If that ends up being the case and the Bills have something special brewing defensively, the need for Vea won't be as strong and they can save any potential draft picks to keep building for the future.
