Despite having a current record of 11-4, the Buffalo Bills have plenty of weaknesses that they will need to address in the offseason. Whether it’s through free agency or the draft, there has to be some changes to the overall roster. Even if somehow and someway the Bills can be the last team standing in Santa Clara, changes still have to be made to improve the roster.
When you look at what the Bills have done in the draft for nearly a decade since Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane arrived, fans can make the arguments for both sides of success and failure.
However, one fact that no one can deny is that the Bills have used the majority of their first round picks in this regime on defense. There have only been two offensive players that the Bills have drafted in the first round; Josh Allen (2018) and Dalton Kincaid (2023). The rest have been on defense. Buffalo also didn’t have a first round pick in 2020 (Stefon Diggs trade) or 2024 (traded out of the first round).
For as much as fans want the defense to be fixed this coming offseason, the offense should be the main priority to improve. This past offseason, the Bills invested in the defense heavily both in free agency and the draft. Now the attention should turn to the offense, but a recent 2026 mock draft doesn’t have the Bills spending their first round pick on offense, but they should.
2026 NFL mock draft has Bills missing prime chance to improve offense
Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone recently posted a mock draft for next April and Scataglia has the Bills drafting Tennessee cornerback, Colton Hood.
"The defense has taken a step back, and the offense just isn't quite as efficient as it was in 2024. Frankly, GM Brandon Beane has done a below-average job in recent years, and you'd think that another early playoff exit could prompt the Bills to make some major changes..."Lou Scataglia, NFL Spin Zone
The Bills used a first round pick this past April on Maxwell Hairston, who has shown some bright potential moving forward. Not to mention, Christian Benford has become one of the best lockdown corners in the league. Taron Johnson is still playing at a high level as well.
Buffalo is better off exploring secondary help in free agency if they want to improve it. They should be more focused on drafting a wide receiver to help Josh Allen. For nearly two seasons now, the Bills have depended on Allen to bring them to victory without a true No. 1 wideout. Enough is enough. Go out and get Allen through the draft if it doesn’t happen in free agency or via trade.
