Fans can make fun of the Buffalo Bills for different reasons, but the one thing that they can’t say is anything bad about their quarterback situation. Josh Allen has been one of the best since 2020. He has set franchise records, created NFL history, won an MVP, and put an entire city and fanbase on his back during the season.
Without him, the Bills are nowhere near being relevant. He’s not perfect, but he surely is one of the best and no one can dispute that. Even though the Patriots just made the Super Bowl with Drake Maye under center, Allen is still the better quarterback but there will now be some competition between them two.
One team in the AFC East hasn't had stability at quarterback since last century and that is the New York Jets. It seems like every 2-3 years, they are bringing in a new quarterback as part of the dysfunction that the organization has been in for a very long time.
The Jets currently hold the 2nd overall pick going into next month's draft, but they are set to lose out on Fernando Mendoza to the Raiders and after that, there is no other quarterback worth taking 2nd overall. Now, the Jets are going to have to scramble to find a quarterback because we all know that Justin Fields isn't the answer.
Jets may make huge trade mistake (and Bills fans are here for the comedy)
According to NBC Sport’s Matthew Berry, a rumor that Berry heard at the NFL Combine is that the Saints are expecting QB Derek Carr to un-retire and then trade him to the Jets. Here’s what Berry wrote about this rumor:
"Not surprisingly, the majority of conversations at the Combine revolved around quarterbacks. And the most interesting one I heard involved Derek Carr. Yes, the retired 34-year-old Derek Carr. From what I heard, the Saints expect him to un-retire and play in 2026. The Saints are very happy with Tyler Shough, so New Orleans expects Carr to un-retire and then they will trade him...to the New York Jets." said Berry.
Carr retired last offseason after playing just two seasons with the Saints. He signed with New Orleans in 2023 after being released by the Raiders after nine seasons.
Carr was never a bad quarterback, but he was never a great one either. He was someone that could keep teams in the game, but there wasn’t a “WOW” factor, especially at the end. Carr has said that he would come out of retirement for the right situation, but getting into the right position may not be possible because the contending teams already have starting quarterbacks.
Not to mention, taking a year off can set him back if he were to play. In addition, if he were to be traded to a team like the Jets, it would set him for a major disaster. The Jets are in a major rebuild with a head coach that is on the hot seat. Their defense is also below average, which means that Carr would most likely have to keep lighting up the scoreboard, which is a huge ask.
On the other side, the Jets trading for Carr may bring some kind of stability but it won’t last long. He’s been out of the league for a year and it’s tougher to play in the AFC East than it is the NFC South. Carr would have to go up against the Patriots and Bills twice a year, both who are championship contenders.
This would not be a great pairing at all between the Jets and Carr, but it would be hysterical for Bills fans to see the Jets once again try an experiment that is destined to fail.
