The NFL Draft is one of those events where football fans look forward to seeing what college prospects get drafted, where they go, and which players get drafted to their favorite teams. It’s a huge step to get to the regular season and Bills fans are looking forward to seeing who will be coming to Western New York.

The Buffalo Bills have some positions of need to take care of, specifically at wide receiver, edge rusher, and even linebacker. They have a first round pick (No. 26) but then they don’t have a pick until late in the third round. It will be interesting to see what direction the Bills go in, but the one thing that they cannot do is draft a player at a position that they don’t need.

Latest mock draft has Bills pulling off trade for the wrong reason (and fans are furious)

Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone recently put together a mock draft that has a ton of trades happening, and the Bills involved in those sweepstakes but it’s a major mistake. Scataglia has the Bills trading up from No. 26 to No. 13 with the Los Angeles Rams to draft Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy.

"Trade! The Bills are making a huge trade up the first-round board, sending the Rams down a ton of picks, but the Rams get some capital in return, and the Bills get another very talented cornerback in Jermod McCoy. Buffalo has made some sweeping defensive changes this offseason. Jim Leonhard is now in as the defensive coordinator, and he was a defensive back in the NFL and was recently coaching with the Broncos in a similar role. The Bills should address the secondary early on." said Scataglia.

There is no denying that McCoy can play some great football, but he tore his ACL that caused him to miss the 2025 season with the Volunteers. He only has a small sample size of what he can do and had he played last season, he would for sure be one of the top prospects without any questions.

However, for the Bills to trade up 13 spots for a position that they don’t need to address early on would be a foolish move for Buffalo. With already having Christian Benford and drafting Maxwell Hairston, Buffalo doesn’t need to draft a corner to start. They also signed Dee Alford in free agency to replace Taron Johnson.

Another factor to consider with this kind of trade up for the Bills is seeing what the compensation was to trade up 13 picks despite not having a second round pick. It’s very hard to imagine that the compensation didn’t include future draft capital in 2027 and that would have Bills fans very angry.

Anything is possible on draft night, but this scenario would have Bills fans feeling confused and angry. There is no need to draft a corner in the first round, let alone trade up for one.
