The Buffalo Bills are reportedly releasing wide receiver Curtis Samuel after two disappointing seasons with the team that was filled with injuries and below average production. Adam Schefter was the first to report it, and now the Bills are going in a different direction.

In two seasons with the Bills, Samuel finished with only 334 yards and 2 touchdowns in the regular season. Yes, that's right. In two seasons, that's all Samuel got. In the playoffs with Buffalo, Samuel finished with 83 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns.

You could make the argument that this is by far the worst free agent signing that Beane has made as the general manager of the Bills. The Bills signed Samuel to a 3-year, $24 million deal in 2024 and the original thought is that he would be the team's No. 2 next to Stefon Diggs. Not much longer after that, the Bills traded Diggs to the Texans.

Bills officially moving on from WR Curtis Samuel in expected move

Prior to coming to Buffalo, Samuel played in Carolina and Washington and he had his best season under Joe Brady with the Panthers with 1,051 total yards and 5 total touchdowns. When the Bills brought in Samuel, that was when Brady was promoted as the full-time offensive coordinator.

So, you would think that signing Samuel knowing the production that he had under Brady would be a great one. It was the complete opposite.

This move comes after the Bills recently agreed to trade for wide receiver DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears. Buffalo traded a 2nd-round pick for Moore as part of the rebuild of this receiving group. Moore is a massive upgrade when you look at what this receiver room was like before his arrival, and now Samuel won't be part of it.

When Samuel signed with Buffalo, there were solid expectations because of what he was able to do in Carolina and Washington. Not to mention, the Bills were still in the mix for the Super Bowl and having someone like Samuel could have easily set them apart because of how versatile he had shown to be.

Instead, the Bills were dealt a bad hand as Samuel dealt with injuries, was a healthy scratch at times, and his on-the-field production was not anything spectacular. Buffalo and Samuel are parting ways, and it will be interesting to see where Samuel lands.
