The Buffalo Bills have had themselves an interesting couple of days. They put in a claim for cornerback Darius Slay after he was waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers. They then waived cornerback Ja’Marcus Ingram in order to make room for Slay. After that news, it was reported that Slay would not be reporting to Buffalo and was thinking about retiring.
As the Bills were facing this news with Slay, Ingram would get claimed by the Houston Texans so essentially, Buffalo lost secondary depth for no reason.
Buffalo would eventually place Slay on the reserve/did not report list and will now retain his rights. If Slay wants to play football this season, it’s going to be with Buffalo. However, it doesn’t look like he will be. Now, the Bills are moving on and have made a new waiver claim going into this Sunday's game.
Bills claim S Darnell Savage after Darius Slay situation
According to Adam Schefter, the Bills have now claimed Darnell Savage off of waivers after he was waived by the Washington Commanders.

As a former first round pick by the Green Bay Packers back in 2019, Savage will now play for his fourth team in his career with the Bills. After spending five seasons with the Packers, he had a short stint with both the Jaguars before being released by the team earlier this season, and was waived by the Commanders after just 8 games. Now he will join a Bills team that is in the mix for a playoff spot.
Savage currently has 15 total tackles on the season. He wasn’t bad in Washington, but with the Commanders getting Will Harris back after being on the IR, Savage was a healthy scratch for the Commanders and was eventually waived by the team.
With the Bills claiming Savage, it makes you wonder how they would utilize him. Maybe they would bring him as safety depth and then push Jordan Hancock over to corner for the time being. Buffalo drafted Hancock out of Ohio State and he can play both corner and safety, so pushing him to corner and then still having a player like Savage to rotate in makes a lot of sense.
We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out, but let’s just hope that this doesn’t become another issue of another claimed player not reporting to Buffalo.
