Through four games, the Buffalo Bills find themselves as one of the lone two teams remaining unbeaten. The Bills are the only AFC team that is 4-0, and the other team in the league that remains undefeated is the Philadelphia Eagles. As October approaches, there is one main issue that the Bills have; their defense.
Buffalo is allowing six yards per carry on defense and the only team that has given up more rushing yards is the Chicago Bears, but by only one yard (658 yards to 657 yards). As the weather starts to cool down and the physicality of the game picks up, the Bills must fix the run defense somehow and someway.
Bills listed as landing spot for young Cowboys DT (but they should avoid trading for him)
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report recently listed Dallas Cowboys’ defensive tackle Mazi Smith as a potential addition for the Bills as the trade deadline starts to slowly approach. The Indianapolis Colts were also listed as a suitor. Here’s a bit on what Knox said Smith:
"Smith has appeared in 34 games and played 848 defensive snaps since being drafted but has recorded just 54 tackles. It's clear that he's fallen out of Dallas' game plan, especially since the team added Kenny Clark in the Micah Parsons trade."Kristopher Knox, Bleacher Report
Smith has not had the start of a career that a former first round pick should have. Now granted, Dallas’ defense has had all sorts of defensive problems but Smith has not been able to bring any kind of stability. Maybe Smith gets traded, maybe he doesn’t. However, the Bills need more of a veteran presence.
Let’s not forget, Larry Ogunjobi has just two games left of his six game suspension so maybe that will help Buffalo. However, without playing a snap this season, there could be some rust that he has to shake off. The Bills have been without Ed Oliver as well, so that’s a factor to consider but he was in the game for Week 1 when Derrick Henry ran all over Buffalo.
If the Bills are interested in improving their defense, they should explore other options rather than hoping that they can help develop a young defensive tackle from one of the worst defensive units in the league. Not to mention, T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker are doing just fine.
