With everything that has happened with the Buffalo Bills this past week, sometimes it’s good to just step back because the truth is, they are still going through their head coaching process and they will be for a little bit. Fans weren’t able to focus on the loss against the Broncos because in less than 48 hours after it, Sean McDermott was fired.

Even though all of the focus for the Bills is on who will be their next head coach, it’s still important to think about potential moves that could be made by Buffalo to improve the team. Whether it’s through free agency or the draft, it plays a huge component going into next season.

When you look back on the 2025 Bills, one of the first things that pops out is how bad they were against the run on defense. They gave up 136 yards per game on the ground in the regular season, making life tough for them because they couldn’t get opposing offenses off the field consistently.

Bills can start rebuild of run-defense with future Hall of Fame linebacker

Mason Cameron from Pro Football Focus (PFF) created a list of best landing spots for the ten highest graded players on defense this past season, and the Bills were listed as great landing spot for Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner. Here's a bit on what Cameron said about Wagner:

"Although Wagner, at nearly 36 years old, isn’t near the player in coverage he once was, he still excels as a run defender and a blitzer. This season, he stood as the only linebacker to produce 90.0-plus PFF grades in run defense (90.3), pass rushing (92.4) and tackling (90.5). "

Wagner has missed just one game in the last four seasons and has kept on adding to his Hall of Fame resume. He is one of the best in the game, and is definitely in the conversation as one of the best linebackers of all time. The fact that he is still playing at a high level atleast against the run, Buffalo has to seriously explore the idea of bringing him in as a respected veteran.
