No matter how this season ends for the Buffalo Bills, one common theme that will always be mentioned is how their defense was a huge liability. Even though their pass-defense has been solid, their run-defense has a massive problem.
They are giving up 140 yards per game on the ground heading into this week’s matchup, which ranks 29th in the league. That is beyond inexcusable considering that Sean McDermott is a defensive-minded coach. Either way, the Bills will have to go with what they have.
Despite going heavy on defense last offseason, it would not be surprising if they spent big once again on defensive help (even though they clearly need help at wide receiver). One thing that you can always count on with Brandon Beane is that the Bills are all about development through the NFL draft.
Since Beane started drafting for the Bills, he has only taken two offensive players in the first round; Josh Allen and Dalton Kincaid. You would think that maybe he would add more offensive help in this coming NFL draft, but a mock draft released by Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports has the Bills continuing what they have done.
2026 mock draft has Bills landing their next superstar linebacker
In Wilson’s mock draft, the Bills land Georgia linebacker CJ Allen:
"Allen is a consistent problem for offensive linemen trying to block him because of his combination of speed, quickness and power. He has a nose for the ball, rarely takes false steps, and is a reliable, physical tackler who limits yards after contact all over the field. He can more than hold his own in coverage vs. TEs and slot receivers, and he brings juice as a blitzer, too."Ryan Wilson, CBS Sports
The fact that he can play great coverage against opposing tight ends should be a great sign for the Bills. However, he is a phenomenal player against the run and would be a perfect replacement for Matt Milano. Adding Allen to this defense would not only give the Bills an immediate starter, but also a hopeful rising star for the future.
