The official new league year will start tomorrow at 4PM and all reported intend-to-sign moves and trades will be finalized and processed. A big time trade that just happened includes the New York Jets as they are reportedly trading for QB Geno Smith, according to Adam Schefter. The Jets are also getting a 2026 7th-round pick while the Raiders get a 2026 6th-round pick.

This trade will now bring Smith back to the Jets, where he was drafted back in 2013, and Buffalo Bills fans can only laugh at this huge mistake that the Jets just made.

Now granted, the Jets had a massive need at quarterback and even with them having the No. 2 overall pick in next month’s draft, there are no quarterbacks worthy of taking that high. Then again, trading for Smith is not exactly the best idea either. Smith was by far one of, if not the worst quarterback last season and him ending up with the Jets just adds more humor to what the Jets are trying to do.

Getting Smith as a replacement for Justin Fields is arguably not an upgrade for the Jets. Last season, Smith barely threw for over 3,000 yards and he had 19 touchdowns-to-17 interceptions. He was also sacked 55 times which some of those may not be his fault.

The Jets are in a huge rebuild and Smith is more than likely just a filler for now until the Jets draft a quarterback next year early on, but the Jets are taking a risk that Smith could play some solid football to the point where his play could end up screwing over the Jets for a high draft pick next year.

Buffalo obviously has some issues that they have to take care of when it comes to their own roster. However, they are never in a repeated cycle of just going through quarterbacks like the Jets are. Even when the Bills were in their nearly two decade playoff drought and going through quarterbacks, the Jets were in the same boat.

The Bills happened to fix it while the Jets are still looking like a dysfunctional team. Them trading for Smith, who was going to be released anyways is a massive mistake by the Jets and Bills fans should be loving it.
