The Buffalo Bills weren’t super active in the NFL’s legal tampering period, but they didn’t take long to make a splash signing once the new year league began. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Bills reached an agreement on a three-year deal with edge rusher Bradley Chubb. The deal is for $43.5 million and it can be worth up to $52.5 million (with $29 million guaranteed).

Chubb will come to Buffalo after starting his career with the Denver Broncos back in 2018, and was then traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2022. He was the 5th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, two picks ahead of Allen. He’s a two-time Pro Bowler who has had 19.5 sacks in his last two healthy seasons (2023 and 2025). He did miss the 2024 season with a torn ACL he suffered late in the 2023 season.
With a new defensive coordinator in Buffalo with Jim Leonhard, the Bills needed a pass rusher and with them missing out on Trey Hendrickson, seeing them acquire Chubb is a great rebound. With Buffalo acquiring Chubb, this now sets him up to get some sweet revenge against the Dolphins, who he has been with since 2022.
Bradley Chubb gets opportunity to play against Dolphins after signing with Bills
Acquiring a talented player is already solid. However, to get one from a division rival is even better. It weakens them, while strengthening your team. With Miami having a brand new regime with Jon-Eric Sullivan and Jeff Hafley, they were bound to make some major changes and they definitely have. Now, they are taking a risk of letting Chubb go and thrive with a division rival that has been the little brother to Buffalo since Josh Allen arrived back in 2018.
Now, the Bills get themselves a pass rusher who is still in his prime at a very reasonable deal to add to Leonhard’s defense. When Buffalo and Miami face off twice a year for the foreseeable future, the Bills will have the chance to see Chubb pressure Miami and cause havoc.
Chubb is a great first free agent signing with the new league year underway. The Bills still have some ways to go to add to this defense. They could use another edge rusher, but they will need to add to their linebacker room since they are going from a 4-2-5 to a 3-4 under Leonhard.
