Ever since former Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Star Lotulelei left Buffalo, the Bills have had trouble stopping the run on a consistent basis. It’s even worse this season and it has ultimately cost them their three losses this year. They have lost to the Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans, and Los Angeles Rams. In those three games, the Bills have given up 167 yards per game in their losses. Bills fans had to live through a nightmare when Derrick Henry rushed for a season-high 199 yards and 3 touchdowns against the Bills.
Long story short, the Bills need major help on the defensive line. Even if you want to take out those three games that they lost, in the 11 games Buffalo has won, they are still giving up 104 yards per game on the ground.
Now granted, the Bills have had to go through injuries with Ed Oliver and DeWayne Carter this season. At the same time, the next man up rotation should have done a better job for Bobby Babich’s defense. Regardless of how the Bills’ 2024 season ends, Brandon Beane needs to go address the defensive line.
Jordan Phillips and Quinton Jefferson were brought back as nothing more than extra depth this season and DaQuan Jones more than likely has no more than one more season with the Bills. Ed Oliver and DeWayne Carter will be on the roster for sure in 2025, but the Bills still need to bring in more help in the trenches, and they can do it by drafting a certain defensive lineman out of Ohio State.
Buffalo Bills select DT Tyleik Williams from Ohio State in recent CBS Sports 2025 NFL mock draft
CBS Sports writer Josh Edwards published a 2025 mock draft and No. 29 overall, the Bills are linked to Tyleik Williams out of Ohio State. No one should be surprised to see the Bills address their biggest weakness on the roster by getting Williams.
"Tyleik Williams does not have the same ceiling as a few taken before him, but he does offer a higher floor, particularly in run defense. Buffalo's offense is always going to be formidable as long as Josh Allen is there, so build a defense that strikes fear in AFC East foes."Josh Edwards, CBS Sports
Williams can take on double teams, much like Jordan Phillips has been able to while in Buffalo. With the way that Bobby Babich and Sean McDermott run the defense, the hope is for a double team to be created on one defensive lineman so that playmakers behind them can fly into the gap and make a play at or behind the line of scrimmage.
He has been very productive inside the trenches and depending on how his combine goes, Williams coming to Buffalo would be a great addition for the Bills. Not to mention, Williams would be coming to a fantastic situation where he can help improve the biggest weakness the Bills currently have.
