Every year in the NFL, there are always coaching and executive positions that open up. Whether it’s because there were firings or promotions that people took, most teams see some changes in the front office. This offseason, the Buffalo Bills had a major shakeup as Sean McDermott was fired.
Brandon Beane not only stayed in the building, but he received a promotion as President of Football Operations. After leading the search for the team’s next head coach, Beane ultimately decided on promoting Joe Brady from offensive coordinator to head coach. Now, Brady has a new coaching staff underneath him; Pete Carmichael Jr., Jim Leonhard, and Jeff Rodgers.
The main storyline this offseason has been what Beane needed to do to fill out the roster, and what he has done up to this point. He has brought in a great amount of defensive help while also adding necessary offensive help.
Now that the draft is over, the Bills can start to focus on the second wave of free agency and see who else they can add to improve this roster. While that should be the main focus, the front office may take a hit and lose someone to an NFC front office.
Bills may see front office member walk out the door for GM promotion
Not only do the Bills have to figure out how to keep adding to the roster, but Buffalo might see Assistant General Manager Terrance Gray get the promotion that many fans feel that he deserves. The Minnesota Vikings, who fired their now former general manager in Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, are beginning their search for their next GM.
Despite firing Adofo-Mensah back in January, the VIkings decided to wait until after the draft to start this search. The Vikings put out a statement on Wednesday about what their process will look like.
Gray joined the Bills in 2017 when Beane was hired and has been in different positions revolving around player personnel before getting promoted to his current position last offseason. One of Gray’s stops in the NFL was with the Vikings, where he worked as a college scout for over a decade. He has interviewed for multiple general manager positions the last few years and he is bound to get his opportunity sooner than later.
As the Vikings begin this process of looking for their new general manager, the Bills could very well be a team that may have to look for Gray’s replacement. Gray has been with Beane since the start of his tenure in Buffalo and if Gray were to get his shot with the Vikings to lead the front office, Beane will need to figure out who will be taking Gray’s spot.
