The NFL world received some big news yesterday when NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that Tampa Bay Buccaneers star defensive tackle, Vita Vea, requested a trade out of Tampa after “failed attempts at a contract extension” which was reported by Vea’s agent, Collin Roberts.
Vea is heading into the final year of his deal and is scheduled to earn $18 million, which seems like an underpay for what he brings to Tampa’s defense. Now, only time will tell if he and Tampa can agree on a new deal, or if he really will be on another team for the first time in his career.
Vea is the best run-stopping defensive tackle in the game with his ability to stop the run behind the line of scrimmage, and his ability to provide interior pressure against the pass. In eight seasons with the Buccaneers, Vea has 256 total tackles, 35 sacks, and 42 stuffed tackles.
He is the perfect 3-4 defensive tackle, and with the Buffalo Bills switching to a 3-4 scheme with Jim Leonhard as the defensive coordinator, Vea is the missing piece that the Bills need to get them over the hump and into the Super Bowl. Chris Landers from FanSided.com recently wrote about what the Bills could trade away to Tampa to acquire Vea, and there is no reason why Buffalo should hesitate.

Landers put together a trade proposal where the Bills would land Vea, and all it would cost them is a 2027 2nd-round pick. That’s it?! Absolutely!
"Just about any way you slice it, Buffalo's run defense was among the softest in football last season. The Bills allowed a whopping 136 yards per game, 28th in the league, and only the New York Giants were worse by EPA/rush allowed. Jim Leonhard's defense isn't short on interior penetrators, from Ed Oliver to Deone Walker to 2026 draftee Zane Durant, but the move to a 3-4 alignment means the need for a true space-eating nose tackle is more pressing than ever." said Landers.
"At this point, though, the Bills need to damn the torpedos. You don't know how many more bites at the apple you'll get with a healthy Allen playing at an MVP level, and we've seen for multiple Januarys now how big a liability this defense - and this defensive front in particular - can be." Landers added.
Buffalo has already brought in their new No. 1 receiver in DJ Moore, and they revamped their pass-rush with Bradley Chubb and T.J. Parker. Why not make one more big move to take care of a massive problem in the middle of the trenches?
Just like Landers talked about, Buffalo’s run-defense was average when it was at its best. It was a mess to watch them try and defend the run, but now they would have a massive opportunity to fix it by trying to trade for Vea.
Even if Tampa has no intentions to move Vea, the Bills would be absolutely foolish to not atleast make an offer that the Buccaneers couldn’t refuse.
