Even though the Buffalo Bills went through some changes earlier this offseason with them moving on from Sean McDermott, they atleast were able to keep some continuity with Brandon Beane and they promoted Joe Brady from offensive coordinator to head coach. They atleast didn’t do a full on reset in the front office unlike some other teams.
One team that decided to bring in a brand new general manager and head coach was the Miami Dolphins. They had moved on from Chris Grier in the middle of last season, and then eventually fired Mike McDaniel well after the season had already ended. Now, it’s Jon-Eric Sullivan and Jeff Hafley running the show down in South Beach.
Miami has already made one major roster move by moving on from Tua Tagovailoa and now they are giving Malik Willis the keys to become their starting quarterback. While going with Willis is a risk, he does atleast have a reliable wideout in Jaylen Waddle…that is unless the Dolphins decide to turn their rebuild into an even bigger one.
Mock trade has Dolphins sending Jaylen Waddle out of AFC East (and Bills fans would love to see it)
Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone listed a mock trade that would be a big one that has the Dolphins trading Waddle out of Miami and joining the Los Angeles Chargers.
"Jaylen Waddle on the Los Angeles Chargers would honestly be a cheat code. He would obviously reunite with his former head coach, Mike McDaniel, who is now the offensive coordinator or the Chargers. Los Angeles does have the cap space to pull off a major move, and Waddle's familiarity with the offense would make him an easy fit." said Scataglia.
If the Dolphins were to ever trade Waddle out of the division, it would have Bills fans cheering with joy because not only would Miami be losing a valuable receiver, but then Buffalo wouldn’t have to gameplan for him twice a year.
Don’t get me wrong, Waddle is not the best receiver in the league but he can do some damage and he has against the Bills from time to time. It’s no wonder why it was reported that the Bills were trying to acquire before last season’s trade deadline.
Waddle leaving the AFC East would only put Miami in a tougher spot to have Willis succeed, so while anything is possible, seeing the Dolphins trade Waddle before the 2026 season seems unlikely. But again, if Miami were to decide to move on from Waddle, it would give the Bills a huge advantage when Buffalo and Miami face each other.
