When the Buffalo Bills decided to trade back three times in the first round that eventually landed them out of the first round, it was clear that the Bills didn’t think any player was worth taking with a first round pick. So, they decided to gain extra draft picks and one of those picks they gained was at No. 35 which they ended up spending on Clemson EDGE T.J. Parker.

The Bills had so many prospects to choose from to add to their defense, but Parker is who they selected and he brings intensity coming off the edge. He is a powerful player who can create a true pass rush rather than just be a run-stopper. Parker will now line up with guys like Greg Rousseau and Bradley Chubb and help the defense create consistent pressure.

When it comes to pass rushers, a lot of them are more situational players than anything. That’s what Von Miller and Joey Bosa were when they were in Buffalo. However, the Bills didn’t draft Parker to just be a situational pass rusher and Brandon Beane made that clear when speaking with the media.

Brandon Beane's comments about T.J. Parker will have Bills fans believing even more

According to Lance Lysowski, Beane said that Parker “was the top rusher on their board after Day 1” and Beane “called him [Parker] an every-down player, as opposed to a designated pass rusher.

If Bills fans weren’t already feeling confident about the Parker pick, they should be now. One big thing that the Bills have been lacking for many seasons now is an edge rusher who can bring intensity coming off the edge. While Greg Rousseau has been solid for the Bills, he is more of a run-stopper which is part of the reason why he was moved to outside linebacker.

Having Parker out on the field on all three downs should be beneficial for the Bills as he is not afraid to get physical against the run or the pass. Fans know that the defense has been the biggest liability of the team for years. Now that Jim Leonhard is running the unit, the hope is that he can change how they operate as a unit.

Hearing Beane say this about Parker is reassuring that they truly believe that he can be an every-down impactful player. That’s what Bills fans want him to be, especially when you consider the prospects that Buffalo passed up on at No. 35.
