When we look back on the 2025 season, there were a lot of unexpected events that happened. Bad teams became good, great teams became average, surprising wins happened. Overall, last season featured a great amount of excitement and confusion. The Buffalo Bills were of course part of those situations, specially when it came to the playoffs.

Buffalo lost the AFC East to the New England Patriots, and entered the playoffs as the 6-seed. However, they went into those playoffs where they wouldn’t have to worry about running into the Ravens, Bengals, or Chiefs, since all three missed the playoffs. Instead, the Bills were eliminated by the Denver Broncos in the second round.

While Buffalo’s season ended in yet another disappointing and heartbreaking playoff loss, it was the first time in what seems like a long time where they didn’t play the Chiefs in the playoffs. Due to lack of overall talent and Patrick Mahomes tearing his ACL later in the season, the Chiefs finished the 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in Mahomes’ career.

Kansas City missing the playoffs last season was a bit unexpected, but Lou Scatgalia from NFL Spin Zone listed 5 “insanely bold predictions” heading into the 2026 season and one of them involves the Chiefs.

Bold Chiefs prediction should have Bills fans hoping it happens in 2026

Scataglia is predicting that the Chiefs will miss the playoffs for a second consecutive season, which should have Bills fans hoping that it becomes true.

"I am not high on the Kansas City Chiefs for this 2026 season. The same front office that got the team into this roster mess is the same front office that also made these offseason moves that people are hyping up. The secondary got worse, as both Jaylen Watson and Trent McDuffie are now on the Los Angeles Rams. The defensive line is still a massive question mark on paper, and absolutely nothing of note was done at tight end or wide receiver." said Scataglia.

Kansas City’s biggest free agency splash was signing running back Kenneth Walker, who is coming off being named the Super Bowl MVP for the Seattle Seahawks. Walker is a quality running back, but he’s never been a consistent top back and yet the Chiefs gave him a 3-year, $43 million deal.

Their draft strategy was interesting, especially when they traded up three spots to get CB Mansoor Delane, who they likely could have drafted 9th overall rather than trade up to get while giving up draft capital.

Overall, the Chiefs don’t look like an overall playoff team, especially since we don’t know how Mahomes will be coming back from a big knee injury. The Bills might be heading into a new era with Joe Brady as their head coach, but Buffalo made a great number of improvements, especially on the defense.

When you have quarterbacks like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes, the expectation is that both of them will be in the playoffs. However, Bills fans would surely love to see another postseaosn that doesn’t feature the Chiefs.
