If there is one player that needs to have a bit of a breakout year for the Buffalo Bills, it’s tight end Dalton Kincaid. Going into the third year of his rookie contract, the Bills will have to decide whether or not to pick up his fifth-year option next offseason. Buffalo traded up for him in the 1st round in 2023 so there is extra pressure on him to exceed expectations.

In two seasons with the Bills, Kincaid has recorded 1,121 yards and 4 touchdowns. Not exactly the kind of stats you want to see out of a first-round pick. However, he declined in production last season due to a knee injury and he missed three games. Even when he came back onto the field, he was never truly 100%.

Throughout OTAs, Kincaid was seen seeing a long sleeve on his leg that had the injured knee. Through the first couple days of training camp, Kincaid had strong performances which was a sign of a potential breakout season, but a recent injury update should have Bills fans nervous regarding Kincaid.

Dalton Kincaid dealing with knee soreness in training camp

According to Bills’ radio play-by-player caller Chris Brown, Sean McDermott told the media on Monday morning that multiple players will not be practicing for various injuries, including Kincaid. Per McDermott, Kincaid is dealing with knee soreness.

This is not something that you want to see within the first week of training camp because Kincaid has a big year coming up and if he doesn’t produce big numbers, his future in Buffalo could be limited.

Even with the Bills having an “everybody eats” offense, Kincaid still has to become one of Allen’s go-to guys in the passing attack. Kincaid has Travis Kelce-like traits and has a high ceiling. It would be a shame if Kincaid’s potential was wasted due to an ongoing knee injury that happened in his second season.

The Bills should strongly consider taking it easy with Kincaid and hope that he will be at his best in the regular season and playoffs.
