With training camp just starting, many newcomers are entering the picture. They are coming in from the outside, looking to challenge players for a spot on the Bills' 53-man roster. With the stiff competition ahead of them, many players will falter and have to leave the Bills empty-handed.
Bills fans will be cheering on their favorite players, as well as some of the camp sleepers, as they compete in one-on-one drills and intersquad scrimmages. They will work extra hard with the coaches to claim their positions.
Let's examine the sleepers and who has the best shot to make the Bills' final regular-season roster in September.
Bills' fans need to watch these 4 sleepers closely during training camp
Travis Clayton - OT
The 6-foot-7-inch, 302-pound competitor is freakishly athletic, coming from a rugby background in England. He ran a 4.75 forty-yard dash, which is fast for a lineman. That time is comparable to Philadelphia Eagles' Lane Johnson from the 2013 NFL Draft combine.
Clayton is coachable and ready to learn, but with the Bills having a surplus of offensive tackles ahead of him, he may not see the field. If he does stay in Buffalo, he will probably be a depth piece or be eligible for the practice squad again.
Dorian Strong - CB
Strong is one of three cornerbacks the Bills drafted in the 2025 NFL Draft. With Maxwell Hairston projected to be a day one starter, and with Tre White and Dane Jackson returning to Orchard Park on one-year deals, look for those guys to help mentor each other.
Then enter Jordan Hancock from Ohio. Both he and Strong are physically ready for the NFL and fit the Bills' mold of being tall corners.
However, the competition for the corner position is also deep, and Strong will have to impress tremendously to earn either a nickel corner spot or have the opportunity to try out for a safety position due to his height and length.
Look for their six-round pick to be a tough and gritty player as he looks to live up to his last name by being a beast on the field at camp.
Jalen Virgil - WR
Virgil was one play away from making the 53-man roster right out of training camp last season, but needed more seasoning on the practice squad. However, he was able to suit up for seven regular-season games last year.
He was always a playmaker, despite being a bit lighter last year. The driven wide receiver worked out in the offseason to gain more muscle mass, becoming more physically prepared for the upcoming season. At 6-feet-1-inch, 210 pounds, Virgil is powerful and isn't afraid to make those tough jump-ball catches, possessing natural speed.
Virgil should keep working hard because who knows, even in a loaded receiver room, he could once again find himself one moment away from making the 53-man roster or possibly playing in half the team's games this season.
Mike White - Backup QB
Since being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, White has become a modern-day Ryan Fitzpatrick, having had a decent career as a journeyman quarterback. His claim to fame came in 2021 in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
In 2021, the New York Jets were 2-7, and QB Zach Wilson was out due to an injury. White was on fire that day, going 37 of 45 for 405 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-31 upset. After taking over for Wilson again as the starter in 2022, White was the backup for the Miami Dolphins in 2023, and threw a garbage-time TD to Robby Chosen in the 70-20 win over the Denver Broncos.
After being on the practice squad at the beginning of 2024, White made the active roster on December 1 against the San Francisco 49ers. Now he's been extended for the 2025 season and will look to compete against Mitch Trubisky for the backup role behind Allen.
