Unlike the Miami Dolphins, the Buffalo Bills are championship contenders despite both teams going through head coaching changes. While the Bills made the move from Sean McDermott to Joe Brady, there is still continuity and the Bills have the best quarterback in the league with Josh Allen.
As for the Dolphins, they are truly going into a rebuild with a new head coach and new general manager. They have already torn apart the roster that was in place and they will be starting from scratch.
While going through a rebuild is very hard, it can also be exciting because it is the perfect time to bring in young top talent who can help build for a potentially successful future. Going into next week’s NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins are set to pick twice in the first round. They have their own and they also acquired the Broncos’ first round pick in the Jaylen Waddle trade.
With them trading Waddle and needing major wide receiver help, no one would be surprised if the Dolphins got themselves one of the top receiver prospects, but there is one player that Bills fans better hope doesn’t land in south beach.
Bills fans must hope WR Makai Lemon doesn't land with Dolphins
Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone recently put together a first-round mock about what the Dolphins should do specifically to start building up their team, and Scataglia has the idea of the Dolphins drafting Makai Lemon out of USC at No. 11 overall.
"Lance Zierlein's NFL.com profile on Lemon compares him to Amon-Ra St. Brown, which is elite company to be compared to. His hands are elite, and to be honest with you, he can do it all from the position. Miami losing both Hill and Waddle does force them to find some production here." said Scataglia.
Most people are talking about Carnell Tate or even Jordyn Tyson as being the best two receivers from this draft class. It’s not the worst take in the world, but Lemon is a prospect where no matter where he goes, he should be able to excel almost immediately.
He is coming off a 1,100+ yard season to go with 11 touchdowns, where he had 150+ yards in four games for the Trojans.
With the Dolphins signing Malik Willis in free agency, they have a little bit of stability at quarterback, but Willis has an extremely small sample size of solid production. However, he was a quality backup in Tennessee and Green Bay. If he was to get a receiver like Lemon in his first year as a starter, it gives him that WR1 that Miami is in need of.
Lemon is an explosive prospect who can play great ball at all three levels of the field, and he’s a little bit of Amon-Ra St. Brown in his game. If the Bills had to deal with that every time they faced off against Miami, it could give them some trouble from time to time.
