Last season was the first time in what seems like a long time where the NFL’s only current dynasty missed out on the playoffs. The Buffalo Bills, along with the rest of the NFL, saw a downfall from the Kansas City Chiefs last season to where they missed the playoffs. Even before Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL in Week 15 against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Chiefs were already 6-7 at that point.

The Bills had taken down the Chiefs last year, winning 28-21 in a game where it felt like it shouldn’t have been that close. Overall, Kansas City was just simply one of the worst teams last season and they will be looking to show the league that it was just a fluke year.

However, what if there was a world where the Chiefs once again missed out on the playoffs again in 2026? I’m sure that most of the NFL would be happy to see it again, including Bills Mafia.

Chiefs' 2026 prediction gives Bills fans huge reason to smile

Ben Solak from ESPN put together a list of 2026 predictions heading into the season, and Solak is predicting that the Chiefs will miss out on the playoffs once again.

"As such, while I expect a better Chiefs team in 2026 -- one that actually gets big gains on the ground and gets after the passer more consistently with rookies Peter Woods and R Mason Thomas-- I don't expect a viable AFC West contender. The Broncos have a clearly better roster across the board. The Chargers are fairly equal in talent and might explode offensively under new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. The rest of the conference remains as deep and intimidating as always. There are only seven playoff spots to go around, and I don't think the Chiefs have a top-seven roster in the AFC." said Solak.

"And that's before we get to the Mahomes injury. A torn ACL in December is nothing to sneeze at, even if his recovery looks like it's going well. Every game Mahomes doesn't play in September is a game the Chiefs might fall behind in the division and in the conference." Solak added.

The Chiefs did manage to sign the Super Bowl MVP from last year in Kenneth Walker, but he isn’t a consistent playmaker and the Chiefs gave him a good-sized contract. Investing in a running back when they had other needs to take care of on the defense was quite the decision.

Even though they drafted high on defense, they are going to have some growing pains and who knows if Steve Spagnuolo will be able to keep his magic going with this defense.

Overall, the Chiefs are in a stacked conference that now has the Broncos at the top and the Chargers are going strong with Jim Harbaugh and Justin Herbert, and have added Mike McDaniel as their offensive coordinator. If the Chiefs do end up missing out on the playoffs again, it can only make Bills fans laugh out loud.
