The Buffalo Bills, along with the rest of the league, saw the Miami Dolphins make a big move at quarterback with benching Tua Tagovailoa. Not only is he being benched, he will be the third string quarterback. The Dolphins have fallen apart this season and part of the reason why is because of Tua’s performance.
To make matters worse for Miami, Tua is owed $54 million guaranteed from the Dolphins which makes it a very difficult situation for the organization to move on from him. With the Dolphins needing to hire a new general manager after parting ways with Chris Grier earlier this season, the new GM that comes in will have to make some tough decisions.
Whether Mike McDaniel stays the head coach of the Dolphins or not, it’s extremely difficult to see Tua playing another down of football for the Dolphins. That begs the question of what Tua’s next chapter could be in his NFL career.
Listed landing spot for Tua Tagovailoa has Bills fans laughing out loud
Gary Davenport from Bleacher Report listed “best offseason landing spots” for Tua in 2026 and one of those spots is right in the AFC East with the New York Jets. Davenport has the Jets acquiring Tua along with a 2027 3rd-round pick as well as salary compensation, while the Dolphins would only receive a 2027 4th-round pick.
"However, the Jets do check a couple of the boxes required to make a trade work. Their quarterback situation is a problem. While they presently have the No. 5 pick in April, that's not going to get it done where the lone rookie quarterback who could reasonably be expected to start in Year 1 (Indiana's Fernando Mendoza) is concerned. And New York is flush with almost $93 million in cap space."Gary Davenport, Bleacher Report
If Tua couldn’t have major success in the warm weather with a head coach that tailored the offense to his skillset, there is no way that a team like the Jets would have success with Tua. Aaron Glenn is trying to rebuild a Jets culture that has been a mess for many seasons and they have multiple first-round picks as well to utilize.
It’s very hard to see this trade happening for multiple reasons, but if it were to ever happen, Bills fans can just sit back and laugh at both teams for making this deal. The Dolphins would have to give him a good amount to get rid of Tua, and the Jets would be once again going with a different quarterback under center that has proven that he can’t play well in cold temperatures.
