Yesterday, the Buffalo Bills saw their bitter division rival in the Miami Dolphins make an absolute joke of a trade where they not only traded Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but they would then follow up that one with trading tight end Jonnu Smith in exchange for a late-round draft pick in 2027.
So, not only did the Dolphins trade away their only great corner as well as No. 1 tight end, but they only got back a late round pick and a player who the organization drafted, yet traded him after just one season down in south beach because he was unhappy there. Yikes, this is not a great look for Miami. However, there’s more nonsense that has just happened in the NFL world.
According to Tom Pelissero, the Dolphins are trading for former New York Giants tight end Darren Waller, who retired last summer, in exchange for 2026 sixth round pick. The Dolphins are also getting a conditional 2027 seventh round pick. This is Miami’s attempt to replace Jonnu Smith, but this is a major downgrade for them and all that Bills fans can do is laugh.
Dolphins continue to embarrass themselves with nonsense trades
So, let me see if I got this right. The Dolphins decided to trade away Tua Tagovailoa’s only true reliable weapon in Smith, just to trade for a player that not only retired last summer but also hasn’t played a full season since 2020. While Bills fans should be thrilled to see the Dolphins making mistakes, it’s got to be painful to watch for Miami fans.
Waller hasn’t been successful since 2019-2020 when he was with the Raiders. He struggled to stay healthy in his final two years with the Raiders before being traded to the Giants, where he only played in 12 games and had just one touchdown that season.
Who knows how Waller is going to be utilized in Miami’s offense but regardless, he is a player that the Bills shouldn’t have to worry about at all. He’s not the same prime Darren Waller he once was and taking a year off last season is going to hurt his development to contribute to Miami’s offense.
