It’s officially draft week, Bills Mafia! This coming Thursday will start the journey for the prospects who are hoping to hear their names called as they learn where they will start out their NFL careers. Whether you are drafted in the first or seventh round, all that matters is how you produce when the pads go on.
Players drafted high become busts all the time, while the later round drafted players are some of the biggest stars that we have. It’s all about where you land and what organization you go to. While getting drafted higher means a bigger payday, it’s not always a great situation to land in certain spots.
The Buffalo Bills have become an organization where prospects should want to go to. They have the MVP of the league in Josh Allen, and a whole lot of stability within the franchise. The Bills are a true Super Bowl contender and it’s only a matter of time before they finally overcome the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs. They just need to find a way to take them down when it matters the most.
When Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have lost in the Super Bowl, it’s because they couldn’t handle the pass rush of both the Buccaneers and Eagles. Teams around the league, including the Bills got to witness a weakness of the Chiefs and they should be eyeing to improve their defensive lines.
Buffalo went out and signed veteran edge rusher Joey Bosa in hopes that he can produce more than Von Miller did. They also extended Greg Rousseau to a four-year deal in hopes that he can become a future Bruce Smith-like player. However, the Bills could benefit from adding another pass rusher in the first round this coming Thursday.
Recent NFL mock draft has Bills finding a perfect successor for Joey Bosa
Tom Fornelli from CBS Sports created an NFL mock draft as the draft approaches and at No. 30 overall, Fornelli has the Bills seleting edge rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku from Boston College. Ezeiruaku is a prospect that is being overlooked a lot and him landing in a perfect spot could help thrive sooner than later.
"Joey Bosa will help in 2025, but he isn't a long-term answer for the Bills. Plus, he hasn't played 15 games or more in a season since 2021, so having depth in the pass rush is pivotal in Buffalo if the Bills want to finally get over the hump."Tom Fornelli, CBS Sports
He is a quick pass rusher who can bend his way pass a blocker to create pressure. Having a massive breakout season in 2024 (16.5 sacks, 80 total tackles, 3 forced fumbles), Ezeiruaku has already shown that he can produce. Now, if he has the opportunity to learn from someone like Bosa who is a ferocious edge rusher himself, that will only add to his game.
The Bills aren’t afraid to with defensive line early on. Under Brandon Beane, the Bills have drafted Ed Oliver, Greg Rousseau, Boogie Basham, and A.J. Epenesa in the first two rounds. What’s one more?
The Bills don’t need an edge rusher early on in the draft, but Ezeiruaku would be a solid addition and it takes care of the future should Bosa be one-and-done in Buffalo in 2025.
